The 37 mile long Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal has only six locks and runs from the market town of Brecon to Five Locks at Cwmbran. The canal is never crowded, being isolated from the main system. Even in peak season you can travel for hours without seeing another boat. It is situated in the Brecon Beacons National Park and is, without doubt, one of the most beautiful canals in the country. The rural towns and villages along the route offer superb pubs and restaurants for you to sample. Within easy reach of the canal you will find pony trekking, golf, climbing, fishing, sailing, and, of course, the chance to enjoy many walks in the beautiful Usk river valley.

Narrowboats are easy to handle and even if you are a complete novice you will soon be driving the boat competently with not a little pride in your new skill. For those more experienced in canal travel, don't miss this waterway. It's a little gem.
