 The 37 mile long
Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal has only six locks and runs from the market
town of Brecon to Five Locks at Cwmbran. The canal is never crowded, being
isolated from the main system. Even in peak season you can travel for hours
without seeing another boat. It is situated in the Brecon Beacons National
Park and is, without doubt, one of the most beautiful canals in the country.
The rural towns and villages along the route offer superb pubs and
restaurants for you to sample. Within easy reach of the canal you will find
pony trekking, golf, climbing, fishing, sailing, and, of course, the chance
to enjoy many walks in the beautiful Usk river valley. |
Narrowboats are
easy to handle and even if you are a complete novice you will soon be
driving the boat competently with not a little pride in your new skill. For
those more experienced in canal travel, don't miss this waterway. It's a
little gem. |

Monmouth
& Brecon canal in the Brecon Beacons National park,
Wales. The canal is 37 miles long and runs from the
market town of Brecon in a Southerly direction; with only six locks
it follows the contours of the mountains above
the beautiful Usk valley. The hire base is between the award winning
five locks at Llangynidr - well known for the ancient and
picturesque bridge over the river Usk. Our unique location enables
us to give the full driving and practical lock instruction
needed for your safety. Both the width and length of our Narrowboats
afford easy navigation on this smaller canal. Lock assistance is
also offered for less able customers.
